Mobile Operators Including Zong, Telenor and Ufone Increases Call Set Up Charges

As it was expected that the mobile operators are going to increase their call set up rates soon. Hence, Mobile Operators Including Zong, Telenor and Ufone Increases Call Set Up Charges to 15 Paisas (inclusive all taxes). This increase in the call charges was started by Telenor, few months back whereas Zong has just announced increment in the charges which will be applied from July 22, 2016 onward. Previously, the operators were charging calls at different rates.

A call setup charge is the fee by the mobile company on each call that is made by the prepaid customers. This charge doesn’t depend on the call duration and is applied on each call separately by the operator.

In order to earn business in the present highly taxed telecom sector, the operators are applying these additional charges.

All three operators have increased call charges with a gap of few months in order to avoid any action from Competitive Commission of Pakistan (CCP).

Now, only Mobilink-Warid are left with this announcement of increase in the price; as they will busy in completing their merger transaction.

The telecom watchdog of the country, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has ordered many times to reduce call charges in order to make connectivity more affordable in Pakistan but still no serious efforts have been showed by the mobile operators in this regard.
