iPhone 15 Slower Than Samsung Galaxy S24 for 5G Performance in Most Countries, Ookla Says

Ookla, a renowned provider of insights into internet performance, has recently published its latest research on 5G smartphone performance, focusing on a head-to-head comparison between the Samsung Galaxy S24 series and the Apple iPhone 15 family.

The research, conducted between February 1 and March 24, gathered data from various regions including Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and North America. Ookla’s findings, shared in a blog post, reveal that in most of the tested countries, Samsung’s new Galaxy S24 smartphones exhibited faster median 5G performance compared to the iPhone 15 series.

Specifically, Ookla noted that “the Samsung Galaxy S24 family showed a statistically significant lead for median 5G download speeds in seven out of 15 countries in this study.” Despite this lead, Ookla also highlighted that the speed differences between the Galaxy S24 devices and the iPhone 15 models were relatively minor in some countries.

In the United States, for example, the Galaxy S24 lineup outperformed the iPhone 15 lineup in median speed, boasting a 34 Mbps advantage.

Similarly, in Hong Kong, while the iPhone 15 family ranked fourth, the Galaxy S24 smartphones demonstrated a median speed that was over 20 Mbps faster.

India saw the Galaxy S24 models achieving the highest median 5G download speed at 302.43 Mbps, outpacing the iPhone 15 family, which recorded a median speed of 285.78 Mbps. Conversely, in the UAE, only a 9 Mbps difference separated the S24 series from the iPhone 15 smartphones.

Indonesia, however, presented a different scenario, with the iPhone 15 lineup emerging as the leader with a median 5G download speed of 80.49 Mbps. The Samsung Galaxy families trailed in this market, with speeds ranging from 55.61 Mbps for the S24 lineup to 69.24 Mbps for the S23 models.

Overall, Ookla’s research highlights the competitive landscape of 5G smartphone achievement, showcasing the strengths of both Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series and Apple’s iPhone 15 family across different regions.
