Sindh Govt Introduces Smart Card For Bus Fares In Karachi

Karachi, Pakistan’s resonant urban center, is witnessing a substantial change in public transit with a smart card system. The People Bus Service is a preferred option among Karachi residents for commuting. Sindh Govt has recently implemented a smart card-based automatic fare collection system for this service. The smart card system was introduced on May 5, 2024. It allows passengers to pay their fares with a simple tap, eliminating cash transactions and expediting boarding. It is no doubt a very good initiative in line with the Sindh government’s ambition to offer a modern, efficient, secure, and seamless public transportation network.

Sindh Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon stated:

“Our top priority is to provide maximum facilities to the people with the help of modern technology. Despite a hike in the petrol and diesel prices in the past two to three years, the Sindh government had decided to maintain Rs 50 per person fare for up to 35 to 40 kilometers’ travel.”
