The All-New iPad Pro: A Supercharged Tablet with M4 Chip

Apple’s 2024 iPad Pro is a complete overhaul with M4 chip, boasting the most significant upgrades since the iPad Pro’s debut. Let’s dive into the exciting new features!

Supercharged Performance of iPad Pro with the M4 Chip

The star of the show is Apple’s brand-new M4 chip. This marks a significant shift, as previous generation chips were first introduced in MacBooks. The M4 utilizes a cutting-edge 3nm manufacturing process, making it a powerhouse. The CPU is 1.5 times faster than the M2, while graphics processing gets a whopping 4x boost. Remarkably, the M4 delivers the same performance as the M2 in the 2022 iPad Pro but at half the power consumption. This translates to significant battery life improvements.

Apple is also introducing new AI features for professional applications like Final Cut Pro. The M4’s power ensures smooth operation, reaching up to 38 TOPS (trillion operations per second) for machine learning tasks.

Sleek Design and Eco-Friendly Materials

The new iPad Pro takes the crown for the thinnest Apple device ever created, even surpassing the incredibly thin 7th generation iPod Nano. The 11-inch model comes in at a remarkable 5.3mm, while the 13-inch model is even slimmer at 5.1mm. The sleek design is complemented by a commitment to sustainability. The aluminium bodies are crafted from 100% recycled materials and come in classic Silver and Space Black finishes.

A Feast for the Eyes: The Stunning Tandem OLED Display

Apple ditches both mini-LED and IPS LCD technology in favour of a groundbreaking OLED display for the first time ever in an iPad. They’ve dubbed it the “tandem OLED display” – a two-layer OLED panel that achieves exceptional brightness. Get ready for vibrant colours and deep blacks with a promised 1,000 nits of full-screen brightness for SDR content and an eye-popping 1,600 nits for HDR content.

The ProMotion displays remain, offering a smooth and responsive experience with a variable refresh rate between 10Hz and 120Hz. Both displays boast a sharp 264ppi pixel density. The 11-inch model offers a resolution of 2,420 x 1,668 pixels, while the 13-inch model steps it up to 2,752 x 2,064 pixels.

For those who prioritize minimizing glare, Apple offers an optional nano-texture etched glass finish. This reduces glare and light scattering, making it ideal for artists and professionals working in bright environments. Keep in mind that this upgrade adds $100 to the cost and is only available on the 1TB and 2TB storage models.

Introducing the Apple Pencil Pro and a Streamlined Magic Keyboard

Apple is also introducing a new Apple Pencil Pro, featuring a pressure-sensing capability. This allows for new creative possibilities, such as adjusting brush settings by squeezing the Pencil. Squeeze gestures are confirmed with a built-in haptic engine for a more natural user experience. To top it off, the Pencil Pro integrates with the Find My network, so you’ll never lose track of it again.

The Magic Keyboard gets a refresh as well. It’s thinner and lighter to match the sleek design of the new iPad Pro. Function keys make a welcome return, along with a larger trackpad for improved navigation. Apple promises a “just like using a MacBook” experience with the new Magic Keyboard. If you prefer a lighter option, the new Smart Folio offers magnetic attachment and multiple viewing angles.

Pricing and Availability

The 2024 iPad Pro is available online in 29 countries starting May 15th and hits Apple stores on the same day. There are two key storage configurations to consider – 256GB and 512GB models come with a 9-core CPU (3 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores), while the 1TB and 2TB options boast a 10-core CPU (4 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores). All models share the same powerful 10-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine. However, the higher storage models get double the RAM, at 16GB compared to 8GB on the base models.

Remember, the nano-texture glass finish is an extra $100 for the 1TB and 2TB models. Opting for cellular connectivity adds $200 to the price tag.
