Many iPhone owners revealed that when they replaced battery of old phones, it boosted their speed. They also discovered that Apple is limiting the processing speed on phones with older batteries. Many other theories suggested that Apple slows down old devices to encourage customers to get new iPhones. Apple Apologizes for iPhone Slowdown, Offers $29 Battery Replacement.
When Apple, was asked about these allegations, the answer was no and the company said that:
Last year we released a feature for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE to smooth out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down during these conditions. We’ve now extended that feature to iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2, and plan to add support for other products in the future.
Apple will be regretting its comment when they admitted that it was purposely slowing down iPhones. The company has not just earned criticism but also a lawsuit now. People were not happy with Apple defending it self by giving excuse to slowing down iPhone without informing people.

After all these allegations, Apple wrote a letter to its users and apologizes for misunderstanding of older iPhones being slowed down to compensate degrading batteries.
Apple said that:
“We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down,” says the company. We apologize.
Apple further added that batteries are consumable components and the company will offer anyone with an iPhone 6 or later battery replacement for just $29 from January to December 2018. It is a discount of $50 from the usual replacement cost.
Apple also promised to add a feature to iOS in 2018 that will provide more information about battery health. This is a very significant change to company’s policy, as when first iPhone came in to being, Apple said that iPhone users will never need to replace batteries.
