Controversial Tweets Case: Azam Swati Surrenders before ATC

The authorities of Pakistan have tightened their grip over any anti-state speech or remarks targeting the sanctity of the institutions. In this regard, the former federal minister and PTI leader Azam Swati surrendered before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday in relation to a controversial tweet. Moreover, the details showed that Swati surrendered before the court and filed bail before arrest in the ATC.

In response, the ATC approved the interim bail plea of Azam Swati  against surety bonds worth Rs 10,000 and granted him bail until April 20. It is pertinent to mention here that earlier, a special court issued an arrest warrant for Azam Swati in the case of a controversial tweet.

Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to arrest Azam Swati and present him before his court. The judge issued Swati’s arrest warrant because of his persistent disappearance from the court hearings in the case.

On Nov 27, 2023, the FIA arrested PTI leader Azam Swati, in a case related to controversial tweets against state institutions. He was taken into custody by a three-member FIA team from his farmhouse located in Islamabad’s Chak Shahzad.
