Dar Chairs Meeting for Transparent Spectrum Auction

The government on Friday decided to make an appropriate amount of spectrum available to the operators in Pakistan. With particular focus on frequency spectrum demand a high level meeting was arranged to discuss all the matters relating to the telecom sector. In this meeting the Minister of IT, Anusha Rehman briefed the Finance Minister Ishaq Dar that auction of 850 MHz frequency may precede the auction of 1,800 MHz.

Finance minister agreed to the presented proposal and assured that this process would be executed with complete transparency. He was also agreed that an appropriate amount of spectrum would ultimately enhance the evolving requirement of international quality data services for Pakistani consumers.

All stakeholders, including Ministry of IT and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) would work together to conclude further procedural measures. They all would make the requisite spectrum available through the auction process.

It was also decided in the meeting that PTA market assessment report would be considered before executing the process. Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid, Attorney General for Pakistan Ashter Ausaf, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Law Barrister Zafarullah, members of Spectrum Advisory Committee and senior officials of Ministry of IT, Ministry of Finance, PTA and FAB also participated in the meeting.
