How to Use ChatGPT Without an Account

OpenAI made an unexpected move on April 1st, announcing that it would offer ChatGPT access to users without requiring an account. Now, while it’s wise to approach internet news on April Fools’ Day with caution, this announcement is no joke. You can indeed engage with ChatGPT without logging into your OpenAI account or having one at all. In this article, we will tell you how to use ChatGPT without an account.

How to Use ChatGPT Without an Account

This new accessibility feature will roll out gradually, so you might not immediately see the option to start a ChatGPT conversation. However, whether it’s today or in the near future, you’ll soon be able to visit chat.openai.com, click on the “Message ChatGPT” text field, and pose any question you like to the chatbot, all without the hassle of signing in. This change makes ChatGPT more akin to a Google service than ever before. Just as you don’t need to sign into your Google Account to quickly search for something, now you can apply the same convenience to ChatGPT. (But I wouldn’t recommend replacing Google with ChatGPT entirely just yet.)

However, there are a few things to keep in mind with this new open accessibility for ChatGPT. Firstly, you’ll only have access to GPT-3.5, which is the same version available with a free ChatGPT account. Additionally, OpenAI utilizes your initial conversations as part of its training data for its language models (LLMs). Whatever queries you make to ChatGPT without an account, OpenAI uses this information to improve its systems. If you prefer to keep your conversations private and out of this training data, you can disable this default setting by clicking the question mark icon in the bottom right corner, selecting Settings, and turning off “Improve the model for everyone.”

OpenAI has implemented additional safeguards for this new experience, including blocking certain types of prompts and generations, although the specifics of these categories have not been disclosed.

Furthermore, users without accounts will miss out on certain features that account holders enjoy by default. These include access to chat history, the ability to share chats, engage in voice conversations, and provide custom ChatGPT instructions. If you find any of these features essential, it’s advisable to create and log into your account before using ChatGPT.
