The World Telecommunication and Information Society (WTIS) Day is celebrated worldwide on May 17 every year to mark creation of International Telecommunication Union (ITU). ICT Industry Globally Marks World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2016. The theme this year is `ICT Entrepreneurship for Social Impact’. This event was sponsored by Mobilink.

ICT Industry Globally Marks World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2016

Minister of State for IT & Telecom Ms. Anusha Rehman attended a ceremony held here in connection with World Telecommunication and Information Society Day which was also attended by Minister for Finance, Ishaq Dar as chief guest, Minister of State Health Services, Saira afzal Tarar, Legislators, Secretary IT, Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Dr. Syed Ismail Shah, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and senior staff of Mobile Phone Operators, industry’s experts, government officials, media- persons and students and teachers of ICT for Girls programme.

While addressing to the ceremony Ms. Anusha Rehman said

The development of National Incubation Centre will increase the Job opportunities because In Pakistan the rate of Faster Internet Users has increased by 18 %. Moreover, Telecom Revenues also increased to 450 Billion Rupees and IT sector exports increased by forty percent. The government is also working To curb gray traffic in the country. For this reason, various measures have taken.

She added:

Free Mobiles will be provided to the Baluchistan women. In the coming five years, the whole e-commerce potential will be more than ten billion in the country.

The Finance Minister Ishaq Dar also said:

The government wants to accelerate IT revolution in the country and also the structural reforms increases the economic stability. If the economic development continues to grow, Pakistan will soon become the 18th Largest economy in the World. Moreover, The Establishment of Intellectual Property Right has also increased the trust of investors.

He added:

The government got 120 Billion Rupees after the sale of 5 licences. The new IT licences will be issued in next month on 13th June. The government will announce the 4G auction on 13th June.
