Over 1 million PlayStation 4’s were sold in the first 24 hours after the game console went on sale.
The game system is Sony’s first in seven years and includes new social features, streaming video apps and a touchpad on the controller. It is compatible with about 20 games, but the catalogue is expected to expand by the end of the year.

A Sony showcased it in a special sale event at the Standard Hotel in New York on November 14, 2013. Sales remain very strong in North America and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29.

It’s one of two hot game systems going head-to-head this holiday season. Microsoft’s Xbox One goes on sale this coming Friday.
Sony is also hoping its console can help build a platform for recovery at the Japanese company’s money-losing consumer electronics operations and it expects to sell 5 million PlayStation 4’s by the end of March and analysts expect demand will outpace the supply through Christmas.
