Pre-paid Users Get Ready to Pay Tax on Mobile Phone Cards Again
Bad news for pre-paid mobile phone users: Cheif Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar has proposed to restore the tax on mobile phone cards. The re-imposition of tax on the top up of Prepaid mobile phone cards will help to collect funds for the construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams.
Tax on Mobile Phone Cards Restored by CJP but for a Good Purpose
This news was broke out by top judges while addressing the dam fundraising ceremony in the UK. It was said that:
“It will not be appropriate to impose taxes to collect funds for the construction of dams, however, we had earlier suspended the withholding tax on the top-up of prepaid cards by cellphone service providers and learnt that through this Rs3 billion were saved per month.“If the nation allows, then we will re-impose the tax on the top-up of prepaid cards and collect money for the dam fund”
No Doubt, its bad news for mobile users but not that bad when we consider a good purpose behind it.
Previously, the Supreme Court (SC) had suspended the deduction of taxes imposed on the top-up of prepaid cards by cellphone service providers and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). No doubt, it will be a great relief to the people of Pakistan.
