The Snapdragon Summit has been an event full of excitement thus far. In addition to unveiling the Snapdragon X Elite chipset for PCs, which Qualcomm claims can surpass Apple’s M2 Max, the company introduced the next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, with a special appearance by Xiaomi.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is set to revolutionize mobile chipsets, with a renewed emphasis on AI, specifically Generative AI. This means that, depending on how manufacturers choose to integrate Qualcomm’s AI capabilities, your future smartphone could offer some impressive features. These will include AI-driven image enhancement, natural-sounding AI voice assistants, and more. The best part is that all of this occurs on the device itself, without an internet connection.

In addition to these AI enhancements, there are standard performance upgrades, including a 30% increase in CPU performance. There is a 25% improvement in GPU capabilities and a substantial 98% boost to the NPU (Neural Processing Unit).

Even more exciting is that Xiaomi’s President, William Lu, appeared at the event to tease the upcoming Xiaomi 14. He confirmed that the Xiaomi 14 would be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. He also hinted at the phone’s use of many of Qualcomm’s new AI features.

This suggests that the Xiaomi 14 could be a significant leap forward, not just in terms of general AI applications but also in terms of its camera capabilities, although specific camera samples are yet to be revealed.

While detailed specifications, including the phone’s design, are still scarce, Lu provided some insights into its performance, and it sounds impressive. According to Lu, the Xiaomi 14 can open 30 apps in just 140 milliseconds. It showcases the chipset’s impressive performance in everyday tasks.

This performance extends to gaming as well, with the Xiaomi 14 capable of delivering consistent 60fps in demanding games like Genshin Impact while maintaining a relatively cool temperature of just 42.3 degrees Celsius for sustained gaming sessions.

The President also teased that we will learn more about the Xiaomi 14 later this week. The company is also having an event on October 26 to launch the Xiaomi 14 series. Although it may not become available in Western markets until early next year, this sneak peek shows what to expect from Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship release.
