All Four CMOs Meet the Standards Set By PTA

During a period of six months, in a total of six cities, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has conducted quarterly Quality of Service (QoS) survey of cellular mobile operators. The purpose of the survey was to check whether CMOs are meeting the PTA’s standards or not.

The name of the cities, where the survey has been conducted, are

  • Jhelum
  • Bahawalnagar
  • Noshki
  • Dera Murad Jamali
  • Bannu
  • Faisalabad

All Four CMOs Meet the Standards Set By PTA

PTA has set some parameters. According to those parameters, the performance of data services has been checked. The following are the key indicators/ parameters that define the performance of CMOs services.

User Data Throughput:

It defines the internet speed that is provided by operators to mobile users.

1

From the above graph, we can see that the threshold provided by PTA is 256 kbps while all the four operators are meeting that criteria. However, Zong is performing better than three others across the coverage areas. Overall the throughput of 3G services are higher than the benchmark value.

2

The above graph shows that the throughput of 4G of all the three operators is also meeting the criteria and are higher than the benchmark value which is 2Mbps. Ufone is missing as it is not offering 4G services. Among all the three operators, Jazz is performing better.

Network Accessibility:

It shows the mobile services that are available to customers.

3

The network accessibility threshold set by PTA is 99%. The above graph shows that all four operators have higher values than 99%. While Jazz and Zong are providing100% of network accessibility.

Service Accessibility:

It indicates the probability that the user can access the desired services. The threshold set by PTA is 98%.

4

The above graph shows that all four telecom operators are meeting the criteria. While Zong and Ufone are giving their 100%.

Call Connection Time:

Call connection time is the time between number dialing and hearing the ring-tone. According to PTA that should be 6.5 sec not more than that.

5

We can observe from the above graph that all operators are meeting the criteria. They are following the benchmark of call connection time. No one is exceeding the call connection time.

Call Completion ratio:

In simple words, it indicates the ratio of call drops.

6

The graph shows that all operators are meeting the call completion ratio threshold value of 98%.

SMS Success Rate:

It is the probability that the SMS is delivered successfully. In simple words, it delivers information about successful SMS delivery.  The threshold set by PTA is 99%.

7

All four telecom operators are meeting the criteria. The SMS success rate for CMOs is above the threshold value.

All the above graphs, that are provided by PTA’s quality of service survey in six cities of Pakistan, are giving a clear picture that all four telecom operators are performing accordingly to the standards set by PTA.
