Apple May Introduce an AI App Store at WWDC 2024

Apple’s approach to AI appears to be more than just offering top-notch AI apps. There are indications that Apple is gearing up to unveil an enhanced AI App Store at WWDC 2024, potentially revolutionizing the way consumers access AI-driven applications.

Tech giants like Apple are increasingly integrating AI elements into their operating systems and software, with plans to introduce these products to consumers in 2024. However, Apple’s strategy for monetizing AI could involve a new direction.

Apple May Introduce an AI App Store at WWDC 2024

In an interview with CNBC, Ben Reitzes, head of technology research at Melius Research, suggested that Apple may lay the groundwork for a new AI App Store in June. This platform would enable users to acquire AI apps from various vendors, akin to Apple’s successful model with other storefronts.

Reitzes draws parallels with Apple’s previous successes, such as the iTunes Store and the iPhone App Store, where Apple persuaded developers to create apps for its platforms. He believes that Apple will adopt a similar approach for AI, offering its own AI services while collaborating with other companies to offer their AI apps for sale, possibly through the proposed AI App Store.

In a research note, Melius Research stated, “We think Tim Cook and his team are running around speaking to rivals because they are channelling their inner Steve persuasion skills.” This suggests that Apple is actively engaging with competitors to build partnerships for the AI App Store.

Reitzes predicts that Apple will unveil details about purchasing AI apps from the App Store at WWDC, alongside announcements about its own AI apps, an upgraded Siri, and the integration of AI into its Services business.

While the concept of an AI App Store is not entirely new, with analysts previously suggesting Apple’s move into this space, Reitzes’ comments shed light on the potential scope and impact of such a store. Apple’s discussions with companies like Google and Baidu further indicate the company’s commitment to expanding its AI offerings.

As WWDC 2024 approaches, anticipation is building around Apple’s plans for AI and the potential unveiling of its AI App Store, which could mark a significant step forward in the integration of AI into consumer products.
