It seems that bad luck is after Apple. Recently, there is another blow on the reputation of the company in context of security. A flaw in iMessage has discovered. It allows single message to lock up and crash your handset. Beware! An iMessage Bug Can Crash iOS with a Single Text Message.

When a message with a URL embedded is receive by iMessage, it will go online and generate a small thumbnail preview of the link. If the metadata is much larger than normal then iMessage will lock up the device.

The device will freeze for a few minutes, after the link is sent, then most of the time, it resprings. Messages app will not load any messages and will continue to crash.

It is very important for Apple to roll out a fix in the next iOS that could help in a quick sanitization of any links that generate previews. However this is not the first time that a harmful message has been able to cause trouble on an iPhone.

In 2015 Apple has already faced a same issue when iMessage was brought down by a string of Unicode characters. We hope that Apple will alter its codebase and will enhance it’s security.
