It does not sleep and actively scans the device. It is constantly improving to make sure users have the latest in mobile security. Users’ devices are automatically scanned around the clock, so they don’t need to worry about scanning. Google Play Protect is a unification of Android security systems like Verify Apps, browser protection, and anti-theft measures.

Google said in a blog post;

Play Protect brings control to your fingertips while giving guidance along the way. Together, we lay out the ideal security blanket for your mobile device.

While Play Protect’s app scanning feature works automatically, you can customize its settings — like turning off regular security threat checks (though I don’t recommend this) — by visiting Google > Security > Verify Apps in your phone’s settings.

Recently, Google has introduced a new safety feature that will help people in case of emergency. Google Adds Emergency Location Feature to its Phone App for Android Users. So now, when you call an emergency number like 911, a location card will now appear on your screen containing necessary information.
