Govt’s Tech Drive: Islamabad & Karachi Set to be Digitalized Soon

Recently, the HBL P@SHA CXO meetup was held in Karachi to discuss digitization efforts in the country. The federal minister for IT & Telecom was invited as the chief guest at the event. During her address, the minister said that the government is working to bring digitalization to the country and the federal capital Islamabad has been chosen for its pilot project, and it will be followed by Pakistan’s biggest country and economic hub Karachi.

Moreover, she mentioned that the government formed the National Digital Commission to bring the digital ecosystem across Pakistan in three verticals. These include economy, governance, and society, which will ultimately provide utility services to the residents via digital channels.

The IT minister added that the government is working efficiently on the digitization of the economy. The move is aimed at achieving maximum financial inclusion that could improve the size of the economy up to $750 billion in the upcoming few years. She also said that the government is working with different countries to boost IT exports on a G2G level and look to empower companies to work on a B2B level with support from the government.

Shaza also informed that the government is working to offer maximum facilitation to IT firms for boosting the country’s exports to the next level. Likewise, Chairman P@SHA Muhammad Zohaib Khan said the Pakistani IT firms are working with the government on every endeavor, from the domestic level to export growth. Furthermore, he claimed that the IT exports will maintain their growth owing to the sustainable policies of the country, however, the government should also address its concerns on the regulatory side, specifically the issues with revenue authority.

On the other hand, CEO S I Global Dr. Noman Said highlighted that the government is striving to boost IT exports across the world, particularly in new emerging Middle Eastern markets. He pushed for establishing a tech ecosystem by making tech education accessible to young talent and also focused on the development of IT infrastructure through the upgradation of hardware systems.
