WhatsApp Biometric Feature Bug Spotted- Chats of iPhone Users are not Safe

Just a few days back, we had covered a story “WhatsApp iOS Adds Fingerprint Locks to Chat- Now No One Can read your Messages” but we were wrong. A week back WhatsApp had rolled out biometric security lock feature for iOS users telling that this feature will further secure the app even unattended for long hours. However sadly, they were also wrong. A new WhatsApp Biometric Feature Bug is spotted that allows anyone to see your chats even after having Face ID and Touch ID.

This bug is spotted by Reddit user who shared a screenshot highlighting bug activities. He showed that when he tried to access the WhatsApp Share extension this bug activates itself. WhatsApp shared extension lets you share anything on your phone via WhatsApp.

This bug works when a user selects biometric authentication time anything except immediately. Although there are other options also available like  After 1 minute, After 15 minutes, and After 1 hour  but upon choosing them the bug gets activated.

Later on, when someone goes to the home screen from iOS share screen, they can easily open WhatsApp without any biometric verification. This is a monster bug that completely bypasses screen lock in WhatsApp. So the moral is WhatsApp Face ID and Touch ID verification is just useless. Android Users who were sad not to get this feature, are lucky.
