World Bank Approves Millions of dollars for Pakistan Digital Economy & Other Projects

There is good news for the IT & tech sectors in Pakistan. The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors has approved a staggering amount of 149.7 million dollars in financing for two projects in Pakistan, namely “digital economy” and “flood prevention.”. For this purpose, a total of 78 million dollars has been allocated for the digital economy enhancement project, which will enhance the financial system via technology and data-based decision-making.

The project will help in the digitalization of various government institutions, which could lead to improved economic efficiency, coordination, and transparency. Experts say that supporting a growing digital economy in Pakistan holds the utmost importance for economic and social development.

On the other hand, a total of 71.7 million dollars has been allocated for the Indus Barrage Improvement Project to ensure protection from floods.

The project will improve the resilience of the Canal System and lessen its harmful effects in the event of severe flood and drought events. The recently constituted Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) is committed to discovering technology-based financing solutions to lure foreign investment in Pakistan and strengthen the country against the calamities caused by environmental pollution.

It is pertinent to mention here that this significant financial infusion from the World Bank is poised to catalyze a transformative shift in the country’s approach to both digital infrastructure and environmental challenges.
