X to Charge new Users, Musk Confirms

In a new development, tech billionaire Elon Musk has confirmed his intentions and revealed more details about charging a small fee to new users. Last year, there were reports that tech billionaire Elon Musk, who holds major shares in X, had plans to introduce a new fee for new users. As per a source, the main aim behind the new change is to make the social platform free of bots.

In a post on X, Musk told a user that a “small fee” to allow new accounts to post on the platform is the “only way to curb the relentless onslaught of bots.” He also added that AI tools can easily pass through “you’re a robot” tests. In another post, he clarified that users who don’t pay the fee will still be able to read posts and follow other accounts for free.

In a message, X said,

“Subscribe to unlock the ability to post and engage. New unverified users are required to pay a small annual fee before they’re able to perform any writing actions on the web, including posting, liking, bookmarking, and replying. This is to reduce bots and spam to make the experience better for everyone. You can still follow accounts and browse X for free.”

However, there is no official word regarding when the new system will come into effect or how much the fee platform may charge, but it will be on the lower side.
