Next-Gen Cortex-X5 Core Spotted in MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Chip on Geekbench
MediaTek has introduced its newest automotive platform, the Dimensity CT-X1, marking a significant milestone for two key reasons. Firstly, it represents MediaTek’s inaugural chip, crafted on a cutting-edge 3nm manufacturing process. Secondly, it boasts ARM’s next-generation Cortex-X5 CPU core, enhancing its performance and efficiency.
The Cortex-X5 core is set to drive MediaTek’s forthcoming flagship mobile chipset, the Dimensity 9400. Recently, the Dimensity CT-X1 made an appearance on Geekbench, possibly from a testing device, offering insights into the performance potential of the Cortex-X5. The chip achieved scores of 1606 points in single-core and 5061 points in multi-core tests on Geekbench. Despite these respectable scores, they trail behind competitors such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and even MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300.
The relatively lower clock speed of the Cortex-X5 core in the CT-X1, set at 2.12 GHz, likely accounts for the slightly lower benchmark scores. However, reports indicate that despite this lower clock speed, the Dimensity 9400’s IPC (instructions per clock) is anticipated to rival that of Apple’s A17 Pro chip and may even surpass the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which will feature custom Oryon cores.

While rumors suggest that the Dimensity 9400 could potentially make its debut in a Vivo smartphone before being adopted by an Oppo model, it’s important to note that the performance of the Dimensity CT-X1 may not directly reflect that of the Dimensity 9400. Final benchmark scores for the 9400 will be influenced by factors such as clock speeds and optimizations, which can differ significantly from those of the CT-X1.
