Pakistan Stood 4th in Global Freelancing Industry- How to Become First

With the growing years, the trend of freelancing is also growing and people are getting rid of same old jobs and switching to remote work which not only let them stay at home but also allow them to earn more just according to their work. Freelancing is a great opportunity for women as it allows them to earn while taking care of their families at the same time. However it doesn’t mean men should go out and opt for a regular 9-5 job, now boys also want to be their own boss via freelancing. This is evident from the report of the Global Freelancing Industry where Pakistan acquired 4th position which is a very good number.

Global Freelancing Industry- When Pakistan will come on First Position

The telecom sector of Pakistan has undergone through huge transformations after the arrival of 3G and 4G services in the country. From the increase in mobile phone penetration to the launch of various m-Services; Pakistan’s telecom sector has become a success story for some regional countries who are left behind in the technological race. With the telecom and digital trend flourishing, more and more people want to stay at home to get their tasks done. Due to good internet facility and data connections from mobile operators, many people have opted for freelancing and enjoying working by sitting at home.

This is evident from a report published by Oxford Internet Institute, named “Online Index Labor”. This report focuses on the online gig economy and how it is flourishing in different countries and what skills are offered by different countries individually. This report is analyzed by using the real-time data from freelancing platforms including Fiverr, Freelancer, Guru and People Per Hour. Proudly, Pakistan stood 4^th in the Global Freelancing Industry. It was expected if we look up to the growing progress Pakistan has made in the freelancing industry.

Six of the biggest occupational categories were used for the classification of countries and regions. The categories are:

• Software Development and Technology
• Creative and Multimedia
• Writing and Translation
• Clerical and Data Entry
• Sales and Marketing Support
• Professional Services (Accounting, Legal Services, and Business Consulting)

In ‘Top Occupation by Country’, Pakistan is placed at the 4th position overall in the ‘Software Development and Technology’ category. It clearly shows that as more institutes are offering software engineering degrees, more graduates are shifting to freelancing getting rid of old 9-5 jobs.

How Should Pakistan Get the First Position in Freelancing?

India, Bangladesh and United States managed to acquire first, second and third position respectively. Now the question is how Pakistan should become first in freelancing. It is only possible if schools prepare children for freelancing rather than regular 9-5 jobs. There should be a special academic course designed for students to guide them how to earn their living via freelancing.

No doubt, the government of Pakistan is working tirelessly to promote Freelancing in Pakistan, keeping in view that more institutes are producing students and we do not have an equal amount of jobs for youth at the same time.  To cater to this issue, the government is working on several initiatives such as digiskills, e-rozgaar, and several other platforms. These platforms actually train youth and provide them with the skills that are necessary for freelancing. If Government of Pakistan will keep on assisting youth in this way, in no time Pakistan will be able to acquire the first position in freelancing globally.
