WhatsApp Will Soon Add A Picture-in-Picture Option for Videos

Meta regularly updates its app with security patches and new features. WhatsApp, one of the most widely used Meta apps, is expected to introduce a picture-in-picture feature for videos in a future update.

Currently, WhatsApp offers a picture-in-picture mode, but its functionality is only available for video calls. This means that during a video call, you can continue the call in a small video window while using the app to send messages and perform other tasks.

The upcoming update will likely expand this feature, allowing users to watch videos in a small pop-up window while using the app. Similar to video calls, WhatsApp will create a small pop-up window for the video being watched, enabling users to continue using other features of the app. This feature is currently under development for WhatsApp Beta for iOS 24.7.10.73.

However, this in-development feature will only work within the WhatsApp app itself. It will not function when you switch to other apps.

It will be interesting to see if WhatsApp will make its picture-in-picture feature compatible with all apps, enabling users to watch WhatsApp videos in a small pop-up window while using other apps as well.

The picture-in-picture mode is a significant feature for chat-based applications like WhatsApp. WhatsApp seems to be catching up, as its rival, Telegram, has had access to the picture-in-picture feature for a long time. In Telegram, you simply tap the relevant icon in the top-right corner of a playing video to activate this feature.

Additionally, this feature is available on various video streaming platforms such as YouTube and Netflix. On these platforms, tapping the picture-in-picture mode icon allows you to continue watching videos in a small pop-up window while using your device.

WhatsApp is also planning to introduce other features in future updates. Users will soon be able to control the media upload quality and upload a one-minute video as their WhatsApp status.
