5 Adverse Effects of Mobile Games on Child’s Brain

In the era of advanced technology, we all are spending more of our time in the digital world instead of the real world. Our minds are now controlled by technology and it is ruling on our lives. At the same time, we are also ignoring and not focusing on how much time our kids are spending on gadgets. Nowadays, our children spend a lot of time on mobile games. Some addictive games such as Fortnite, PUBG or GTA, etc are affecting the children’s brain adversely.

Interestingly, MRI scans revealed that all ‘addictive video games can have a similar effect on children’s brains as drug abuse or alcoholism’. If children play mobile game for a long time it brings the same changes in function and structure of the brain as those of alcoholics or drug addicts.

Negative Effects of Mobile Games on Child’s Brain

Scientists have collected and summarized results from several scientific studies to check out how video games can affect brains and behaviors. Their review findings were published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience.

Marc Palaus, first author of the review mentioned that “Games have sometimes been praised or demonized, often without real data backing up those claims. Moreover, gaming is a popular activity, so everyone seems to have strong opinions on the topic,”

According to some researches, video gaming can be addictive, a phenomenon known as “Internet gaming disorder.”

Nowadays in Pakistan, the situation is also getting worse. Parents let their children play games unsupervised which is no doubt a serious problem. Children are getting so addicted to the mobile games that they are even not taking any interest in outdoor games. This behavior changes have negative effects on the health and growth of our children. It has been observed that today’s kids have less interaction with nature and least bothered about what’s happening in the surrounding.

They are becoming anti-social and insensible as compared to the kids of ’90s who were more into outdoor games.

Adverse Effects of Mobile Games on Child’s Brain

Children become violent:

Most video games contain violent stuff. Due to which children who play more violent video games are more likely to adopt violently and have increased aggressive thoughts.

Lack of Attention:

Mobile games destroy the lack of attention spans. Studies have shown that the more time children spend playing video games, the poorer is their performance in studies just because of lack of attention.

Concentration Issue:

Studies have found that games can hurt children’s concentration to some extent. Although it can improve the ability to concentrate in short bursts but damaging long-term concentration.

Intense Symptoms of Inattentive ADHD:

Children who play more than one-hour of Internet video games may have more intense symptoms of inattentive ADHD as compared those who do not. Inattentive ADHD is learning and attention disorder.

Short Tempered and Impulsive:

There are a lot of chances that Kids spending too much time playing video games would have impulsive nature and become short tempered.

It is becoming very difficult the healthy growth of children’s mind in this digital age and parents are also facing a lot of challenges. However, what parents can do? they should strictly supervise their kids and shouldn’t allow them to play mobile games for a long ti me.
