Facebook the world’s largest social media network is celebrating its 12 birthday today. CEO and founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg ruminates in his post how the journey took place when he wrote the first code for the site in January 2004.

Mark Zuckerberg shared in his post:

“Our anniversary has a lot of meaning to me as an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come together as a community. When I wrote the first code for Facebook in January 2004, I hoped it would help students at my college connect and bring our community together. Today more than 1.5 billion people around the world use Facebook to stay connected with friends and loved ones.”

The notion behind the network was primarily to facilitate students at Zuckerberg’s college to interact with each other. The action of friendship, love and sympathy we all share on Facebook are altering the world every day in means we cannot completely measure. Sometimes they just make people in our lives feel a bit more valued. Sometimes friendship becomes a strength that arrays us on a different trail in life.

Zuckerberg is rejoicing the anniversary as #friendsday, a way to celebrate the friendships and relationships that have made a variance in individuals lives with the help of the network. He has called on Facebook users to celebrate the day with him by telling a story about friendships that have made a difference in their lives.

During these 12 years, Facebook has ventured into a diversity of tasks, creativities and technologies with the indication of connecting more and more people across the world. It has also introduced many interesting features with the passage of time.
