Facebook Changes News Feed to Focus on Friends & Family

Yesterday, Facebook made a major change to News Feed to prioritize friends and family. The social media company wants its users to have meaningful conversation with family and friends. In this way content from businesses, brands and media will be filtered and will be given last priority. Facebook Changes News Feed to Focus on Friends & Family.

This is a very good step taken by Facebook however we expect that this move will hurt businesses and publishers who get the traffic from this platform.

These changes are made for users to ensure that the time they spent on Facebook is meaningful and make the users of this platform happy.

While announcing the major changes in news feed, Mark Zuckerberg said that:

“I’m changing the goal I give our product teams from focusing on helping you find relevant content to helping you have more meaningful social interactions

These changes are made after Facebook was criticized for spreading fake news in 2016 US election. People also criticized the tech giant for not able to stop the hoax spreading from its platform. It seems CEO, Facebook, Zuckerberg has finally decided to get his foot out of such things and focus on domestic use of Facebook.

Zuckerberg also showed his concerns that the company will face some ups and downs with this move but then he said that the feelings of people are more valuable to the company.

Zuckerberg said that:

“By making these changes, I expect the time people spend on Facebook and some measures of engagement will go down. But I also expect the time you do spend on Facebook will be more valuable.”

Prioritizing family and friends against Publishers and Brands will hurt them as they get most of traffic through Facebook.
