Back in 2014, Lenovo acquired Motorola from Google and changed the branding from Motorola to “Moto by Lenovo“. Now it seems like, the Chinese company has changed its mind and Lenovo will use Motorola Branding again. So, we can say that, now all Lenovo devices will get their old names as Motorola devices.
Hello Moto Again, Lenovo will Use Motorola Branding Again
According to president of Lenovo, the reason behind this name changing is now they have “clarity on how we present ourselves”. But it is quite a vague statement.
Vice president and chief marketing officer of Motorola, Jan Huckfeldt, said at MWC:
“We had in the past said that we would no longer use the brand, we see this very differently now, ultimately it is a brand that lives in the hearts and minds of the consumer, what lives in them is Motorola, when they think of the smartphone brand they think of Motorola, it would be foolish to dismantle that.
“We will build on it, like in the heydays, some ten years ago, with the Razr, there were many executions were you see the branding and Razr, Motorola was not mentioned but everyone was thinking Motorola.”
We all know, Motorola is a well known brand in mobile industry as compared to Lenovo. Moreover, Lenovo will take many year to get the same popularity as Motorola. It makes sense for the company to continue to use the Motorola brand for selling smartphones. Not only smartphones, it will include its higher-end Moto Z family of devices, along with their Moto Mods accessories.
The company is also planning to introduce, or re-introduce, the Motorola name in more countries as well. For that reason, Lenovo is also expanding the distribution of its Moto Z phones to other carriers.
