Redmi Announces Turbo Series As Part of New Generation of Performance Flagships

Redmi’s President, Thomas Wang, recently announced Xiaomi’s latest venture – the Redmi Turbo series, positioned between the K and Note series, with a strong emphasis on performance. The inaugural device, the Redmi Turbo 3, will become a significant player in the midrange market.

Wang elaborated on the Turbo series’ vision in a detailed social media post and subsequent Q&A session. According to him, these phones aim to redefine the midrange segment. While the Redmi K series will continue to cater to those seeking flagship-level performance, the Turbo series will offer impressive performance at a more affordable price point. Meanwhile, the Redmi Note series will focus on delivering excellent camera capabilities.

The naming convention of the Turbo series is strategic. The Turbo 3, being the third device in the Redmi lineup, will provide exceptional performance without the premium price tag, unlike flagship devices. Preceding the Turbo 3 were the Redmi Note 11T Pro and the Redmi Note 12 Turbo. Notably, there seems to be no Redmi Note 13 Turbo in the works.

Some speculations revealed that the Turbo 3 will be rebranded Poco F6 for markets outside China. However, there is no official information available regarding this. The absence of the Poco lineup in China adds to the intrigue surrounding this possibility.

This new addition to Xiaomi’s portfolio may add complexity for consumers, but it offers a clearer differentiation between the Redmi K, Turbo, and Note series. This move comes after the Redmi Note 11 series, which had 18 variants, and the more streamlined Redmi Note 12 series, which still boasted 13 variants.
