Samsung Launches Exynos 1480: Next-Gen AI and RDNA 3 GPU Inside

Samsung recently introduced the Galaxy A55 smartphone. The Exynos 1480 processor features the newly launched Galaxy A55. However, during the initial launch, Samsung didn’t delve into the specifics of this processor. Now, the company has shared more comprehensive information about the capabilities and features of the Exynos 1480 chip, shedding light on what users can expect from it in terms of performance and efficiency.

Samsung Galaxy M55 5G: The Mid-Range Marvel

The Exynos 1480 showcases a hybrid CPU setup comprising four potent Arm Cortex-A78 cores operating at 2.75 GHz for intensive operations, complemented by four Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.0 GHz to enhance power efficiency. However, the standout feature is the Xclipse 530 GPU, built on AMD’s RDNA architecture, which Samsung claims delivers a 53% boost in graphics performance compared to its predecessor.

Joining the AI trend, the Exynos 1480 incorporates a dedicated AI engine equipped with a 6K MAC NPU (Neural Processing Unit). Although seemingly less potent than the flagship Exynos 2400’s AI engine, this inclusion enables the Galaxy A55 to support AI-driven functionalities akin to those in the Galaxy S24 series. However, the availability of these features depends on whether Samsung decides to release the corresponding One UI 6.1 update for the device.

The Exynos 1480 chipset delivers a comprehensive array of wireless connectivity options, including support for Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E, sub-6 GHz 5G, mmWave 5G, and CAT.18 LTE, ensuring rapid and versatile connections across various networks. Moreover, this chipset is proficient in managing displays with resolutions up to FHD+ at a fluid 144 Hz refresh rate. It possesses the computational capability to handle a single 200MP sensor, enabling functionalities such as capturing 64MP images at 30 FPS or dual 32MP images at the same frame rate.

Additionally, the Exynos 1480 facilitates seamless encoding and decoding of 4K 60 FPS H.264 videos, showcasing its prowess in multimedia processing. It extends support for LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, contributing to heightened performance and responsiveness in data processing tasks. Manufactured utilizing a 4nm process, presumably, Samsung’s proprietary 4LPP+, the Exynos 1480 is poised to exhibit enhanced power efficiency compared to its predecessors, aligning with evolving industry standards and consumer expectations for sustainable performance metrics.
