Social media has become too much important that it has totally replaced the conventional media platforms. Not only this, now the profile’s information we provide on our social media will be accessed for visa purposes as well. Yes, State Department of US to review email addresses, social media and phone numbers from some of the foreigners who are seeking US visas. This move has been taken as a part of the “Trump Administration” which aimed to enhanced the screening of potential visitors and immigrants.

For this purpose, US State Department has issued a notice and said that:

“The department is requesting a temporary go-ahead from the White House budget office so the plan can take effect for 180 days, beginning May 18, regardless of those public comments.”

These proposed requirements will only be applied to the visa applicants who are being identified for extra scrutiny specially those who have traveled to the areas that are controlled by the terrorist organizations.

The State Department also said that:

“It estimates that the rules would affect about 0.5 percent of total US visa applicants, or roughly 65,000 people.”

In more simple words, all the affected applicants will be sharing their social media details of around 5 years mainly including their disclosed associated mobile numbers and email addresses used during this time period.

Whereas, the passwords of social media of applicants will not be asked to disclose.
