Experience Lightning Speeds: Xiaomi 14 Ultra Unveils 5.5G Support

China Mobile is leading the charge towards the next evolution of networking with its 5G-Advanced technology. To support this advancement, Oppo’s Find X7 series will be the first device to receive 5.5G support. This upcoming update is scheduled for this month. Following suit, Vivo has confirmed that its X Fold 3 and X100 series will also join the next-generation network with an over-the-air (OTA) update. Now, Xiaomi is entering the fray, showcasing remarkable speeds with its Xiaomi 14 Ultra, further solidifying the transition towards enhanced connectivity.

In a groundbreaking achievement, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra reached an astounding speed of 5,132Mbps, surpassing the previous record for speed over a 5G connection. This remarkable feat was the result of a collaborative effort between China Mobile, ZTE (the provider of networking equipment to China Mobile), and Qualcomm (the designer of the Snapdragon X75 modem embedded within the Xiaomi 14 Ultra).

China Mobile aims to roll out the new network across more than 300 cities in China. With the introduction of 20 new smartphones capable of 5.5G connectivity expected this year, rapid adoption is anticipated. China Mobile forecasts a staggering 20 million subscribers on the 5.5G network within a year. To put this into perspective, the country achieved a milestone of 850 million 5G subscribers as of February.

5G Advanced, also known as 5.5G or 5G-A, boasts significant improvements over existing networks. It promises a remarkable tenfold increase in network capacity. It will enable downlink speeds of up to 10 GB/s and uplink speeds of up to 1 GB/s. This enhanced capacity will accommodate the connection of up to 100 billion IoT (Internet of Things) devices to the network. Additionally, latency is reduced compared to current 5G networks, further improving the overall user experience.
