Facebook Portal Device- A smart home Device Having Cameras
Facebook has also installed Amazon’s Alexa on Portal for Smart home functions. Alexa will allow users of Portal to use voice commands for music on Spotify or asking questions.
The device is expected to go on sale in the US in November. Facebook plans to release them elsewhere but it will take time.
“We don’t listen to, record or stall any of the content of a call, and it is all encrypted. All the processing required is done locally on the device. We have worked hard to ensure the AI is on the device and we think this is a breakthrough for the industry.”
He further added that:
“We still our consumers wanting additional depth of connection. We see that with the growth of video calling on WhatsApp and Messenger. Video calling on the phone is good, but not great, you have to sacrifice your left arm to the cause. So we had this idea that we could provide people with this much richer opportunity to connect.”
Only the time will tell whether the Facebook Portal device will be feasible for consumers with privacy concerns or not.
