Another year has come to an end, we saw many highs and lows in Pakistan’s IT and Telecom industry. But all in all, it was a great year for our industry with significant growth and improvement in our IT exports, 3G/4G penetration, IoTs and regulatory front. In addition to that, the news of 5G testing in the country was also well received all stakeholders. Moving towards the content of Phoneworld’s current issue, this time we have tried to highlight the need of modernized and forward looking regulations to maximize the benefits of tech revolution in the country. In our article, “Structuring the Digital Society: Regulations for the Digital Age”, we have emphasized  the need of  bringing a regulatory framework that is not only “fit for the digital age” but also support fair competition, investment and innovation that benefits everyone.

In current times, the role of women for the development and growth of any nation has become exceedingly important. Therefore, the digital revolution will also not be fully successful unless women take part in it. This is the matter that we have tried to bring in light in our feature article, “connecting the unconnected : Mobile phone gender gap in a Digital Society”. The modernization of the human world has made our lives easier but carelessness of mankind in this development has also put our planet at risk. Climate change has become a global issue and countries around the world are trying to figure out ways to minimize the environmental damage. How the telecom and IT industry can play its part in this quest is what we have discussed in our article “Lets Go Green”.
