Huawei’s Kirin 980 is the world’s first upcoming 7nm Chipset. The Kirin 980 chipsets will be powerful and energy efficient. It will reportedly be produced by TSMC using the FinFET process. The volume shipments of the world’s first 7nm chipset will start next quarter. Other chip makers are planning to start shipping their own 7nm chipsets during the three month period from October through the end of this year.
Huawei’s Kirin 980 Will feature four Cortex-A77 Cores
The Kirin 980 will feature four Cortex-A77 cores for complex tasks. Although it is not confirmed because some sources are calling for the Cortex-A76. Moreover, it will feature four Cortex-A55 cores for light housekeeping. It will include the 24 core Mali-G72 GPU. Kirin 980 will support LPDDR4X DRAM memory.
Furthermore, the Kirin 980 will include a second-generation Neural Network Processing Unit (NPU) for AI. The Kirin 980 will be more powerful and energy-efficient than previous Kirin chipsets as it is designed and manufactured using the 7nm process.
The chips are expected to power the upcoming Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. So, it means that Mate 20 and Mate 20 pro will be the first handsets to sport such powerful chipsets. The Kirin 980 will be unveiled at the IFA trade show. So, we all we see the energy-efficient chipsets at IFA which will run from August 31st through September 5th.
