Skype version 8.0 Rolls out on desktop with HD video
Today, Microsoft is launching Skype version 8.0 that will soon replace version 7.0. The older version will no longer work after September 1, 2018.
Skype version 8.0 carries free HD video and screen-sharing calls with up to 24 people. Moreover, it includes reaction options for messages in conversations and @mentions in order to get attention in a group chat, a chat media gallery for viewing photos and links, customizable themes, a notification panel, and options to share photos, videos, and files over Skype that are up to 300MB in size.

However, Skype has some 300 million monthly users, but it has to put more efforts in order to increase the number of users and that is just because Skype is facing increased competition over the years from the Apple’s FaceTime, and other apps for texting and calls, like Messenger and WhatsApp.
This time Skype version 8.0 focuses on consumer-friendly features. The most significant of the forthcoming additions include an end-to-end encrypted experience where Skype audio calls, text messages, and shared files like images, audio and video.
Skype 8.0 will also soon be available for iPad users with features like quoted messages, personalized themes, chat list, @mentions, and more.
Microsoft is encouraging all Skype users to update to the new 8.0 version as earlier versions of Skype will soon stop working.
