We all know that the Supreme Court took suo motu notice and ordered suspension in deduction of taxes on prepaid mobile phone cards back in June 2018. This step was taken under the supervision of former CJP Justice (retd) Saqib Nisar. However, the bad part of the news is that now the SC has restored all the taxes. The prepaid users will have to make them ready to pay the taxes again.

Taxes on Prepaid Mobile Phone Cards Restored by SC

We have come to know that a three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa recently heard the case regarding the taxes on mobile phone scratch cards. The bench included the former chief justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Umar Ata Bandial. They discussed the matter regarding the restoration of taxes on mobile phone cards.

According to the latest reports, Rs25 will be deducted on every Rs100 card due to the restoration of taxes on scratch cards from now. So, now the SC has allowed cellphone service providers to deduct taxes on the top-up of prepaid cards, months after stopping them from the tax deduction. It is a piece of bad news for all the prepaid users however we can just hope that the government takes any such step for the betterment of Pakistan’s economy.
